The Method

Contemporary Pilates

Pilates has come a long way since Joseph Pilates first laid down the method that made his work legendary—and let’s be honest, social media has gone a little… wild with it. Scroll through your feed and you’ll see people bouncing all over the reformer or throwing in random gym-inspired moves with zero control—yikes!

Here’s the thing: contemporary Pilates isn’t about chaos. It’s about honoring the original method while giving it a modern twist. Our approach keeps the five Merrithew Principles at the heart of every session—breathing, pelvic placement, rib cage placement, scapular movement and stabilization, and head and neck placement—while layering in new variations that challenge your body in fresh, safe ways.

As long as you understand the classical technique, contemporary Pilates is your playground: think of it as classical Pilates with a dash of creativity, flair, and yes, a sprinkle of social media-inspired fun—but always with control, intention, and zero bouncing around on the reformer.

We hope you love both methods equally!
